Awareness
Our journeys are all unique... there is no 'one way', and rarely a 'right way'.
We are sharing our experience in these pages, and recognize that it won't resonate with everyone. Please take only what serves you, and leave the rest behind.

Brett lived with passion, laughter, love, and hope. He leaves a legacy of friendship, music, and the encouragement and mentorship of others.
He died by suicide, but his life is defined by how he lived and loved.
Survivors of Suicide Loss
The death of a loved one by suicide often leaves many questions. One question Brett didn't leave us wondering about were his thoughts about suicide. In 2019 we shared this article on social media "Why You Should Stop Saying 'Committed Suicide'" and he shared this:

Trauma, Addiction, Mental Illness

We don't know what battles other people are fighting.
Whether you are struggling yourself or supporting someone who is, please keep compassion for self and others at the forefront. If you can be anything, be kind.

These are resources we have found helpful, particularly in trying to understand the intersection of trauma, addiction, and mental illness.

The Power of Pets
Brett & Quinn were a pair! As any pet owner knows, pets have so much to offer beyond companionship. And Brett was clear, Quinn was a lifeline for him. He connected him to the community, to movement and fresh air. Some days he gave him purpose. Brett was also fortunate to work in a space that allowed these best friends. And those were some of his best days.

During the pandemic, many people sought a pet and shelters emptied out. Post-pandemic, many pets have been returned, no longer fitting with their owners lives. If you are looking for love and can offer a good home, see if your best friend is waiting for you.
